‘Cockfighting’ Jln Muhibbah cluster’s latest spike fuels total tally 311 cases

KUCHING, March 15: The so-called ‘cockfighting cluster’ in Jalan Muhibbah, Betong now records 311 cumulative cases since Feb 23 following a sudden spike of 20 new cases today.

It was quite a leap from yesterday (March 14)’s single case and the day before yesterday (March 13) recording zero new cases.


According to the reports by State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, a total of 2,900 individuals have been screened to date where 2,498 were negative and 91 more samples awaiting laboratory test results.

Coming next after Jalan Muhibbah Cluster was the logging camp Begalak Cluster just declared yesterday, registering a daily toll of 13 new cases that pushed the cluster tally to 62 in just two days.

A total of 398 close contacts of the cluster have undergone the screening tests and 335 of them were negative. Only one more individual is waiting for the test results.

Meanwhile, the widespread Sena Cluster which involved a community in Desa Senadin, Permyjaya and two longhouses in Subis reported seven new cases for the day, with its total tally up to 79.

A total of 200 individuals have been screened, 115 returned negative results and six more are awaiting laboratory test results.

Another cluster recording new infections was the funeral Emperoh Jambu Cluster with three cases and a total cluster tally of 303 as of today.

A total of 1,550 individuals have been screened where 1,199 were negative and 48 more samples are still waiting for their results.

The fifth cluster with new cases is the newly declared supermarket cluster at Jalan Tanjung, Kidurong in Bintulu District.

The cluster picked up a total of 19 positive cases, 106 negative cases and two more samples remain unknown.

With that, the number of cases from active clusters in the state today sums up to 60 cases.

Of the 29 active clusters, 24 did not report any new cases today. They were Sungai Bakong and Buluh Pasi in Meradong; Kiba, Jalan Awang, Geronggang and Mas Merah in Sibu; Melor in Pusa; Buloh in Selangau; Jalan Ho Pin and Univista in Samarahan; Kampung Sungai Maong and Jalan Green in Kuching; Jalan Main Bazaar, Sebangkoi and Kejatau in Sri Aman; Gelong and Jan Yong in Kapit; Kidurong Dua and Jun Heng in Bintulu; Bukit Tunggal and Nanga Lijau in Julau; Seruas in Beluru and Rakut in Miri as well as sub-cluster Tangap in Subis.—DayakDaily
