MIRI, Sept 7: An 18-year-old female motorcyclist was killed after crashing into the rear of a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle that had stopped on the road shoulder at KM9 of Jalan Lambir, along the Bintulu-Miri Pan Borneo Highway, this morning.
The accident occurred at about 9.50 am when the 4WD, driven by a 61-year-old local man, was travelling from Bintulu towards Miri.
Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said police received a report regarding the fatal accident involving the two vehicles.
He said the 4WD driver had stopped his vehicle on the left road shoulder when the victim’s motorcycle crashed into the rear of the vehicle.
“The impact caused the motorcyclist to sustain serious injuries,” he said in a statement published by TVS.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from Miri Hospital at about 10.11 am. The 4WD driver was uninjured in the accident
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
