SAR operations for missing elderly man to resume tomorrow

Firefighters planning their search operations for missing 61-year-old Chong Siaw Voon

KUCHING, March 15: Personal belongings such as a motorcycle, helmet and a pair of slippers belonging to a missing 61-year-old man were found at Kuap Bridge here.

However, its owner Chong Siaw Voon who was last seen leaving his house at 5.30am on Sunday morning (March 14) is still missing.

According to Fire and Rescue department (Bomba), they received an emergency call from the police at 12.38pm today before dispatching a team of rescuers from Samarahan fire station led by PKPgB Ebby Hirwandy Sarbini to the scene.


It was understood that Chong’s belongings were found on the bridge by a police patrol at Jalan Datuk Muhammad Musa around 9.30pm last night.

Although his condition is still unknown, whether he jumped into the river or went elsewhere, search and rescue (SAR) operations was immediately mounted.

Today rescuers searched the bridge within three kilometres radius upstream and downstream Sarawak river.
