KUCHING, April 5: Political secretary to the Chief Minister Tan Kai calls for all parties involved in the aid delivery process to prioritise public safety, in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

He asserted that they have to approach it in a manner which will not contribute to the spread of Covid-19 which defeats the very purpose of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

“It is crucial that when making delivery of food aid assistance on a mass scale, they must ensure that they are not contributing to the spread of Covid-19,” he emphasised in a press statement today.

He noted that it is important to stop the spread of the Covid-19 in order to prevent greater loss of life.

He warned that if the Covid-19 pandemic is not managed well, there will be more Sarawakians infected and dying due from the disease than starvation.

Meanwhile, Tan Kai also gave a reminder that the Sarawak government food aid assistance during the MCO involving four Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) service centres will be delivered in stages according to the urgency of needs due to various challenges faced.

He disclosed that the four service centres are N9 Padungan, N10 Pending, N11 Batu Lintang and N12 Kota Sentosa, with the names and contact numbers of more than 6,000 households submitted.

Earlier today, Chong had claimed that more than 95 per cent of the 3,000 families whose names and contact details the party had submitted to the state Welfare Department had yet to receive food aid. — DayakDaily
