S’wak Water: Overnight controlled pipeline testing at Batu 7 Jln Miri-Bintulu starting 10pm (June 9)

KUCHING, June 9: Sarawak Water will carry out a controlled pipeline system testing and isolation exercise involving a 750mm mild steel cement-lined (MSCL) pipe at Batu 7, Jalan Miri-Bintulu tonight (June 9) from 10pm until 4am tomorrow (June 10).

In a Facebook post, the utility provider said that this is to verify and determine the actual source of a leak ahead of the scheduled 36-hour water supply disruption that is expected to affect several areas in Miri starting tomorrow, to conduct repair works on major pipelines.

During the operation, several areas are expected to experience temporary low water pressure or temporary water supply interruptions, including:

  • Taman Jelita
  • Taman Tunku
  • Jalan Engkabang
  • Sungai Dalam
  • Eastwood area
  • Hilltop area
  • Riam area
  • Taman Delight
  • PUSPAKOM
  • Sarawak Water Old Barrack

“Consumers in the affected areas are advised to store sufficient water for essential use and to use water prudently throughout the duration of the operation.

“Sarawak Water will closely monitor the implementation of this activity to ensure that it proceeds smoothly and that disruptions to consumers are kept to a minimum,” it said.

Meanwhile, in another post, it said that a partial road closure will occur in the vicinity of the main pipeline repair works site at Batu 7, Jalan Miri-Bintulu, from 5pm tomorrow until 11pm on Thursday (June 11).

“Road users are advised to use Jalan Pesisir Miri-Bintulu as an alternative route to avoid traffic congestion.

“Please plan your journey accordingly and obey all safety signs and traffic management instructions,” it said.

Earlier on, Miri City Mayor Adam Yii advised residents not to panic buy or excessively stockpile bottled water ahead of the scheduled water supply disruption.

At the same time, Yii, who is also the assemblyman for Pujut, urged businesses and retailers to uphold their social responsibility by maintaining reasonable prices and refraining from taking advantage of the situation through excessive price increases. — DayakDaily
