KUCHING, Sept 1: A young man’s relationship with a teenage girl he met on TikTok has ended in a four-year prison sentence, after a Sessions Court here convicted him of physically sexually assaulting the then-16-year-old.

The 21-year-old, who works as a cook, admitted guilt to a charge under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, a provision that carries up to 20 years behind bars and allows for caning.

In this instance, the presiding judge, Musli Ab Hamid, chose to spare him the whip.

Court documents show the offence took place in September 2025 at a house in Serian, when the accused was 20.

Prosecutors say he and the girl had connected through the social media platform TikTok, and their acquaintance grew into a relationship.

That relationship led to the teenager becoming pregnant; she has since given birth to a child.

The matter came before the court again today for sentencing, after officials reviewed a social report on the accused.

Delivering his decision, Judge Musli backdated the four-year term to March 9, 2026, the day the man was arrested.

Beyond the prison sentence, the court ordered the man to undergo rehabilitation counselling while incarcerated. Once released, he will remain under police supervision for a further two years. — DayakDaily
