KUCHING, Sept 2: Six areas in Sarawak remained at hazardous air quality levels this morning, with Lundu recording the State’s highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 346, while the Kuching skyline continued to be shrouded in thick haze as the transboundary haze situation showed little sign of easing.
According to the latest air quality update issued by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) at 8am, Lundu topped the list of affected areas, followed by Lubok Antu (335), Kanowit (323), IPD Serian (320), Kuching (318) and Samarahan (302).
An API reading exceeding 300 is classified as hazardous and poses serious health risks to the public.
Several other locations recorded very unhealthy air quality, including Sibu (292), Sarikei (283), Tebedu (279), Mukah (241), Bintulu (226) and Sri Aman (214).
Meanwhile, Kapit (187), Miri (181), ILP Miri (183), Limbang (173), Lawas (182), Bario (157), Betong (194) and Samalaju (196) remained in the unhealthy category. — DayakDaily
