KUCHING, June 9: Miri will host this year’s State-level Maal Hijrah celebration, which is scheduled to take place from June 16-17.
In a TVS news report, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Regional Development Agency Coordination, DBKU, and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, said that the theme for this year’s programme is ‘Ummah Maju Makmur’ (A Progressive and Prosperous Ummah), emphasising the overall well-being of the Muslim community through the values of unity, progress, and social welfare.
During a press conference on the programme at the Miri Division Resident’s Office today, he said that it will begin on June 16 with a prayer session at Masjid Al-Taqwa Miri starting 5.30pm.
The main event will be the Sarawak-level Maal Hijrah Assembly, which will be held on June 17 at Miri Indoor Stadium beginning at 9am.
Among the guests expected to attend are Sarawak governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, as well as Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. — DayakDaily
