Six Sarawak areas record hazardous API readings at 5pm, Serian highest at 377

KUCHING, Sept 1: Six areas in Sarawak recorded hazardous Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 5pm today, with the Serian recording the highest reading at 377.

According to data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, the five other areas with hazardous API readings were Kuching (351), Sarikei (339), Sibu (325), Samarahan (323) and Sri Aman (304).

Three areas in the State recorded very unhealthy readings: Bintulu (250), Mukah (243) and Samalaju (230).

A total of 11 areas recorded unhealthy API readings. The monitoring station at the Miri Industrial Training Institute (ILP) recorded 191, followed by Miri (186), Kapit (186), Kota Kinabalu (177), Limbang (173) and Labuan (170).

Also recording unhealthy readings were Kimanis (166), Keningau (165), Politeknik Kota Kinabalu (159) and Tawau (153) in Sabah, while Johan Setia in Selangor recorded 156.

Meanwhile, 48 areas nationwide recorded moderate API readings.

An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous. — Bernama
