KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2: Malaysia should harness the global appeal of K-pop, Korean dramas, films and food to inspire more South Korean tourists to visit the country, says Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister (MOTAC) Dato Seri Tiong King Sing.

In a Facebook post, he said South Korea’s success in using cultural content to shape its global tourism appeal offered lessons for Malaysia as it sought to strengthen its presence in the South Korean market.

“Malaysia can similarly harness the power of content to showcase our destinations, distinctive architecture, culture, gastronomy, nature and experiences, giving Korean travellers even more reasons to discover Malaysia,” he said.

Tiong said this was among the key takeaways from Malaysia’s recent sales mission in Seoul, which brought together Malaysian representatives with key players from South Korea’s travel and corporate sectors.

The discussions also focused on practical factors affecting travel demand, including airfares, seat capacity and flight reliability, as well as opportunities to strengthen tourism products, improve connectivity and develop new routes ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).

He said Malaysia and South Korea had significant potential to deepen their tourism ties through stronger industry collaboration and new partnerships.

Tiong also expressed appreciation to Korean tourism partners for their hospitality, insights and continued support during the sales mission.

“I look forward to seeing these partnerships grow from strength to strength as we welcome more Korean travellers to experience the warmth of Malaysia and create their own unforgettable Malaysia, Truly Asia story,” he said. — DayakDaily
