KUCHING, Sept 2: Sarawak has earned international recognition after Kuching was named a “Healthy City Expert” by the Alliance for Healthy Cities (AFHC), highlighting the State’s community-driven approach to creating a more inclusive and liveable city.
The recognition was presented during the 11th Global Conference for the Alliance for Healthy Cities 2026, held in Sydney, Australia, from Sept 1 to 3.
According to the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), the recognition reflects its commitment to fostering community inclusivity through the Friendly Neighbourhood initiative and various programmes that engage residents in local socioeconomic development.
“The efforts reflect DBKU’s commitment to building a city that is not only progressive, but also inclusive, safe, sustainable and liveable.
“More importantly, the recognition demonstrates that the community-based approach implemented in Kuching has gained global attention and recognition,” it said in a social media post yesterday (Sept 1).
The recognition was received by DBKU Mayor Dato Hilmy Othman and acting Sarawak Deputy Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datu Awang Mohammad Fadillah Awang Redzuan.
