KUCHING, June 18: The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kuching Branch is placing strong emphasis on unity and heritage as it prepares for its 67th Sa’ati Night commemorative dinner on June 28, an event set to honour party pioneers, leaders, and community figures in a celebration of togetherness and continuity.

According to a press release today, SUPP Kuching Branch is in the final stages of preparation for the event, with acting chairman Jong Yean Pin leading an organising committee that has begun courtesy visits to key party and community leaders to ensure strong participation and support.

As part of the engagement efforts, the delegation met SUPP secretary-general and Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, vice chairman and Deputy Minister of Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang, Phillip Yong representing the family of the late founding elder and former minister Tan Sri Stephen Yong, as well as Sarawak Chinese Associations Federation president Dato Sri Richard Wee.

All are expected to receive formal invitations to attend the June 28 dinner, which marks a significant milestone for the Kuching Branch.

Organisers said this year’s Sa’ati Night is more than an anniversary celebration, describing it as a platform to strengthen bonds among members, reflect on the party’s history, and reinforce unity.

The term “Sa’ati” derived from the Bidayuh language meaning “Together as One”, reflects the values that have guided SUPP for 67 years.

The organising committee chairman Lucas Lim said the values of leadership and service discussed with the leaders during the visits closely align with the spirit of Sa’ati.

“Through these engagements, SUPP Kuching Branch aims not only to honour its pioneers but also to inspire younger members to uphold their dedication, resilience, and commitment to public service,” he said.

Bringing together past leaders, grassroots cadres, youth and women’s wings, GPS coalition representatives, business leaders, and community figures, the 67th Sa’ati Night is expected to serve as a major gathering reflecting nearly seven decades of political and community journey.

The branch has called on members and the wider community to support and participate in the celebration, describing it as a collective moment to honour 67 years of service and to reaffirm the shared aspiration for a united, prosperous, and progressive Sarawak. — DayakDaily
