Siburan woman accused of hurting mother with knife to be committed to mental health facility

KUCHING, Feb 17: A 22-year-old woman who charged with hurting her mother with a knife was ordered to be committed to Sentosa Hospital for safe custody on account of having schizophrenia.

Sessions Court Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad also ordered her to be brought to court for mention on March 17.


Agreeing to a request by defence counsel, Wong King Wei, Dayang Ellyn allowed the accused to attend church services with her parents on Saturday and Sunday nights on a weekly basis.

The judge also made an order under section 344(2) of the Criminal Procedure Code that the case be reported to the Tuan Yang Terutama for the accused to be confined to a psychiatric hospital.

The accused was earlier brought to Hospital Sentosa for observation and evaluation on her mental condition after she was remanded by the police on Nov 6, 2019, at about 6.30pm in front of a fast food restaurant at a shopping mall here.

According to the facts of the case, she had quarreled with her mother at their house located in Taman Sentah, Mile 18, on the morning of Nov 6 before fleeing the scene.
