Covid-19 in Sarawak: 2 more deaths, 10 new positive cases reported

KUCHING, April 5: Sarawak has witnessed two new fatalities and 10 new Covid-19 positive cases, disclosed State Disaster Management Committee deputy chairman Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during a press conference here today.

The two new fatalities brings the cumulative total of deaths in Sarawak due to Covid-19 to 12 while the cumulative total of positive cases is now 264, since the first case was reported on March 13.

“The eleventh victim involved a 72-year-old man from Taman Sebah Height, Kuching.


“He tested positive for Covid-19 on March 28 and was admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). He was pronounced dead on April 4 at 1:37pm.

“The twelveth victim was a 53-year-old man from Batu Kawah, Kuching. He sought treatment at SGH on March 31 and was diagnosed with Covid-19 on April 2. He person passed away on April 5, at 12:39am.

“At the moment, it is still unknown whether the case had any close contact with positive Covid-19 patients,” Abdul Karim disclosed.

Abdul Karim who is also Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister noted that out of the 10 new positive cases reported today, nine patients are seeking treatment at SGH while one patient is at Sibu Hospital.

Sarawak also recorded 50 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases.

From the 50 new PUI cases, 17 are from Kuching, Bau (2), Samarahan (5), Simunjan (3), Serian (1), Sri Aman (1), Betong (4), Saratok (3), Sibu (1), Kapit (4), Song (1) and Miri (8).

Meanwhile, Abdul Karim urged the public to continue abiding by the movement control order (MCO) by staying at home in order to break the chain of Covid-19 infections. — DayakDaily
