BINTANGOR, Sept 7: The Bintangor Waterfront upgrade could enter its construction phase next year, following an expected tender exercise by the end of 2026.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said the project was now in its final design stage, with the entire site having secured approval from the State Planning Authority (SPA).
He said the proposed upgrade would extend from the designated area to the ferry ramp, with the design nearing completion ahead of the tender process.
“We hope it can be tendered by the end of this year. Work may begin next year,” he said when officiating at the closing ceremony of Meradong Festival 2026 here on Saturday (Sept 5).
Ding said the latest development marked further progress towards implementation following the completion of key processes, including site approval and design preparation.
He added that the waterfront upgrade was expected to improve facilities and the overall environment along the Sungai Bintangor riverside area.
Such infrastructure development was important to ensure the area kept pace with community needs and local growth, he said.
Ding expressed hope that the remaining design and tender processes would proceed as scheduled, allowing physical works to begin next year. —DayakDaily
