KUCHING, Sept 7: Kota Samarahan recorded Sarawak’s highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading today at 233, followed by Kanowit, which also recorded API readings above 200.
The API reading in Serian rose to 200 today, up from 185 yesterday (Sept 6), according to the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak’s API status as of 10am.
Other areas recorded readings below 200, with Kuching at 192, Sibu at 185, and Mukah at 181.
Meanwhile, several areas continued to record moderate API readings, including Kapit at 92 and Bario at 90.
Schools in certain parts of Sarawak will remain closed from Sept 7 to 11 following an order for temporary closure as haze continues to affect the State.
Cloud seeding operations are also expected to be carried out today to induce rainfall and improve air quality as the haze continues to affect several parts of Sarawak.
People are advised to stay indoors and limit outdoor activities as the haze persists, as prolonged exposure to unhealthy air quality poses potential health risks, especially for children, vulnerable groups, and senior citizens. — DayakDaily
