KUCHING, Dec 19: Sarawak’s strategic location, abundant natural resources, and commitment to green energy offer immense opportunities for collaboration with China.
Deputy Minister of Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang highlighted Sarawak’s rich biodiversity and ancient rainforests, which provide opportunities for eco-tourism and sustainable research and development in sustainable practices.
“Our economy is diversified, with strengths in agriculture, manufacturing, and services. We are also rapidly advancing in the digital economy, with initiatives aimed at transforming Sarawak into a hub for innovation and technology.
“This diversification makes us a robust partner in the Malaysia-China cooperation framework,” said Tiang, representing Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, at the Malaysia (Sarawak)-China Cooperation Forum and Friendship Cities Roundtable Meeting at Imperial Hotel today.
Preivously, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, in her speech, underlined Sarawak’s preparation for its 2030 vision.
According to her, Sarawak has allocated a historical State Budget of RM15.8 billion for the year 2025, which was announced by Abang Johari on Nov 11 during Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Sitting.
She said that Sarawak’s Post Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 focuses on new economic sectors such as hydrogen, carbon trading, and carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS).
Sharifah Hasidah also highlighted Sarawak’s progress in Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) negotiations, including amendments to Article 1(2) and Article 160, which incorporate MA63 in the definition of the Federation.
“After amendment, it is stated that the Federation of Malaysia was established under MA63 and not under the Federation of Malaya Agreement 1957.
When we talk about MA63, the Malaysia Agreement must be read together with the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report and all annexures attached to it,” she said. –DayakDaily
