KUCHING, April 24: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng today received Sun Shougang, Executive Vice Governor of the Henan Provincial People’s Government, in a courtesy meeting aimed at reinforcing the growing cooperation between Kuching South and Zhengzhou, the capital of China’s Henan Province.
The meeting marks a significant follow-up to the Letter of Intent signed in April 2024 to establish a Friendship City relationship between the two cities.
Both parties reaffirmed their shared vision to enhance collaboration across key sectors, including trade, investment, culture, tourism, and youth development.
Wee described the engagement as an important step in cultivating a practical and people-centered partnership, expressing optimism about the opportunities ahead.
“We are honoured to deepen our friendship with Zhengzhou and see great potential in our joint efforts to foster mutual growth, cultural exchange, and inclusive development for our communities. This meeting further solidifies our shared commitment to building a future-focused relationship,” he said in a statement.
Discussions also explored initiatives such as hosting joint economic forums, promoting youth and educational exchanges, developing sustainable and smart city solutions, and expanding cultural programmes.
Both sides agreed to continue working closely to formalise and broaden the scope of their partnership, laying the groundwork for a long-term strategic alliance grounded in mutual respect and shared aspirations. — DayakDaily
