KUCHING, April 24: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) remains committed to strengthening the Sarawak tourism sector with the approval of a RM3.37 million allocation for the implementation of 15 projects aimed at maintaining and upgrading tourism facilities across the State.
In a statement on its official Facebook page, the Ministry said the approved projects involved various key tourism areas, including Bukit Lambir National Park, Bako National Park, Semenggoh Nature Reserve, Bintulu Tumbina Park, as well as several tourism homestays in areas such as Kampung Sadir, Santubong, and Julau.
“This effort is expected to further enhance the tourist experience and contribute to local economic growth through community tourism,” the Ministry said.
It further explained that the allocation is part of the Preservation, Conservation, Renovation and Upgrading Programme (Pemeliharaan, Pemuliharaan, Ubah Suai dan Naik Taraf – PPUN), which is being implemented in phases under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) “Rolling Plan”.
“This proactive step proves the Federal government’s determination to support the development of the tourism sector in Sarawak, in line with the aspirations of the 12MP to accelerate the recovery and transformation of the country’s economy.
“MOTAC will continue to work closely with State implementing agencies to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of the implementation of each project,” it added.
The allocation handover ceremony was held yesterday, represented by MOTAC secretary general Datuk Shaharuddin Abu Sohot and Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts permanent secretary Datu Sherrina Hussaini. – DayakDaily
