KUCHING, June 24: The Sarawak Education Department is set to conduct a thorough analysis into the factors behind a decline in this year’s Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination results, despite various improvement efforts.

Its director, Omar Mahli, said both internal and external factors would be examined to better understand the decline in student performance and to strengthen strategies moving forward, according to TVS, citing Suara Sarawak.

“We are currently focusing on equipping STPM candidates with better answering techniques and enhancing training for Form Six teachers,” he told reporters at the STPM 2024 Results Announcement Ceremony at Yayasan Sarawak here today.

Omar acknowledged that the shortage of teachers at the Form Six level remains a challenge.

However, he said the department has temporarily resolved the issue by assigning teachers from the mainstream education stream to fill existing vacancies.

He also commented on several schools that had previously recorded excellent results but failed to replicate the same level of performance this year.

“We will conduct a deeper analysis of this issue as there may be multiple contributing factors.

“STPM candidates still have opportunities to improve. Once the analysis is completed, we will share the key findings,” he added.

A total of 12 schools in Sarawak recorded outstanding achievements in the 2024 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination by attaining a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of over 3.00.

The schools are SMK Sacred Heart, SMK Chung Hua, SMK Bandar Sibu, SMK Rosli Dhoby, SMK Methodist, and SMK Tung Hua in Sibu; SMK Green Road and SMK Bako in Kuching; SMK Merbau, SMK Chung Hua, and Kolej Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang in Miri; and SMK Saribas in Betong. — DayakDaily
