KUCHING, June 3: Sarawak, Labuan and Langkawi in Kedah are among the regions in Malaysia that have already adopted B20 biodiesel.
In a TVS news, Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said most other parts of the country are still operating at B10 and B12 levels, while the rollout of B15 biodiesel began on June 1.
“In Peninsular Malaysia, we have reached B15, but Sarawak (except Bintulu), Labuan and Langkawi have already achieved B20.
“Many areas are still at B10 and B12, while only certain locations have moved up to B15,” she told reporters after inspecting the B15 Biodiesel Distribution Terminal at the Klang Valley Distribution Terminal (KVDT) in Puchong today.
On the B15 rollout at PETRONAS stations since June 1, she said the programme will be gradually expanded to petrol stations nationwide.
She added that the retail price of B15 remains unchanged from conventional diesel, with no difference in fuel performance.
“In terms of engine compatibility, there are no issues, as biodiesel has long been in use, including B10 and B7,” she said.
Noraini also assured that palm oil-based biodiesel does not negatively impact Malaysia’s export market.
“If B15 is implemented nationwide, crude palm oil (CPO) usage is estimated at around 801 million metric tonnes annually.
“This will not affect export markets or disrupt existing market conditions,” she added.
Malaysia began its phased energy transition on June 1, gradually increasing biodiesel blending from B10 to B15 across Peninsular Malaysia, implemented through 19 licensed production plants nationwide. — DayakDaily
