BAU, June 3: A local man has been arrested following a violent altercation involving sharp weapons that left three individuals injured in a midnight incident at the junction of Kampung Skibang Road.
Bau District Police Chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the incident occurred at about 12.15am on June 2, 2026, following a confrontation believed to have stemmed from a dispute over salary payments and motorcycle rental matters.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim and a friend had gone to meet the suspect to discuss the issue. However, upon arrival at the location, the suspect is believed to have exited a vehicle before launching an attack using a sharp weapon, escalating the situation into violence.
“As a result of the incident, two victims sustained injuries, while the suspect was also injured.
“The main victim suffered injuries to the ear, shoulder and fingers and is currently receiving treatment at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), where he is scheduled to undergo surgery.
“The second victim sustained arm injuries and has since been discharged after receiving treatment. The suspect, who sustained a head injury, is in stable condition and is being treated at Bau Hospital,” Mohd Haide said in a statement yesterday.
Police also recovered several items at the scene, including bloodstains and suspected weapons used in the attack — a samurai sword, a machete and a metal rod. All items have been seized for forensic examination.
“Preliminary findings suggest that all individuals involved were under the influence of alcohol during the incident,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 and Section 326 of the Penal Code for rioting with a weapon and causing grievous hurt.
Mohd Haide stressed that the case has been effectively resolved with the arrest of the main suspect assisting investigations.
He also reminded the public to avoid settling disputes through violence, particularly when under the influence of alcohol, as such actions can lead to serious consequences and endanger lives.
Members of the public with relevant information are urged to contact the nearest police station to assist in ongoing investigations. — DayakDaily
