DARO, April 29: The construction of four bridges on Pulau Bruit is gaining strong momentum, driven by the adoption of ultra high performance concrete (UHPC), with works now at a promising stage and potentially ahead of the original schedule.
According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the four key structures, namely Penipah, Penuai, Betanak and Salah Kechil bridges, are progressing smoothly, supported by careful planning and the integration of modern construction technologies.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) and Semop assemblyman, Datuk Abdullah Saidol, said the project is a people-centric initiative aimed at improving connectivity, particularly in coastal communities.
He noted that the current progress reflects effective planning and the strong commitment of all parties involved to ensure timely delivery.
“This project was designed based on the actual needs of the people of Pulau Bruit, and its implementation is clearly on the right track, with the potential to be completed ahead of schedule,” he said during a working visit to the project site in Kampung Penipah yesterday (April 28).
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo highlighted that the use of UHPC has been a key factor in accelerating construction.
According to him, the advanced material not only enhances structural durability but also enables faster and more efficient construction compared to conventional methods.
“The use of UHPC allows works to be carried out more rapidly without compromising quality, while ensuring the bridges are more durable in the long term,” he said.
The project is expected to significantly benefit seven settlements in the northern part of Pulau Bruit that have long faced connectivity challenges.
Once completed, the bridges will improve mobility for residents and support economic activities, particularly in the fisheries and agriculture sectors, through a more efficient transport network.
Overall, the project underscores the Sarawak government’s continued commitment to strengthening rural infrastructure, boosting local economic growth, and enhancing the well-being of coastal communities. — DayakDaily
