KUCHING, Aug 10: The Sungai Limbang Bridge project’s physical progress has reached 90.64 per cent and will serve as a strategic link between Kampung Gadong and Bukit Kota once completed.
According to the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), the bridge is expected to have a significant socioeconomic impact on residents of Limbang Division, particularly by improving connectivity and travel efficiency.
The new route is expected to save road users up to 1.5 hours of travel time compared with the existing route, while facilitating residents’ daily activities, improving mobility and logistics efficiency, and stimulating local economic and business activity.
“Besides improving mobility, the bridge’s modern and aesthetic design is also expected to make it one of Limbang Division’s new iconic landmarks, while potentially enhancing the area’s appeal to visitors,” said the department in a Facebook post.
The department also noted that Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo conducted an official working visit to the project site to inspect the progress and latest implementation status of the high-impact infrastructure project.
Accompanying him were representatives from the Sarawak JKR headquarters, senior principal assistant director Bong Yan Phing; Limbang Divisional JKR engineer Louis Jonathan Philip; and divisional assistant engineer Awangku Fakrulnizam Awang Madohi.
Meanwhile, in a TVS news report, Aidel said the bridge is one of four bridges expected to be completed by the end of the year. The other bridges are the Batang Lupar 2 Bridge, Batang Rambungan Bridge, and Batang Saribas 2 Bridge.
The project features a modern single-plane cable-stayed bridge design spanning 229.5 metres.
Its completion will represent another significant achievement in the Sarawak Government’s efforts to strengthen infrastructure networks and connectivity, thereby improving the people’s well-being and supporting the socioeconomic development of Limbang Division. — DayakDaily
