DARO, Aug 31: A forest fire broke out at Kampung Kut here, affecting about 7.5 hectares of land with 2.5 hectares extinguished.
In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 9am today, and firefighters from the Daro station were deployed.
Firefighting operations began immediately upon arrival. Two forest fire pumps were deployed using 300 feet of hose, with water sourced from a drain. Strong winds and thick smoke made it difficult for personnel to conduct a direct attack to contain the fire front.
By 5.30pm, the operation has been suspended and will resume tomorrow (Sept 1).
The operations commander noted that several challenges were faced, which included hot, dry, and windy conditions which caused the fire to spread rapidly, limited water sources, unsatisfactory Government Integrated Radio Network (GIRN), and the lack of road access to the fire site. — DayakDaily
