KUCHING, Aug 31: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) has decided to temporarily close the Kuching Lights and Floral Festival 2026 and Luna Light Wonderland, currently being held at Sarawak Botanical Gardens, to the public from today (Aug 31) following increasingly concerning haze conditions in Kuching.
According to a post on its Facebook page, the decision was made after considering the safety, health, and wellbeing of visitors, staff, and all parties involved in organising the events.
“Based on current conditions, air quality in Kuching is at a concerning level, which may pose risks, particularly to groups sensitive to air pollution, including children, the elderly. and individuals with respiratory problems.
“As such, the Kuching Lights and Floral Festival 2026 and Luna Light Wonderland will remain temporarily closed to the public until haze conditions return to a safe and suitable level for outdoor activities,” it said.
It added that it will continue monitoring air quality and haze conditions from time to time and will inform the public about the reopening of both locations through its official communication channels.
“DBKU understands the inconvenience that may arise from this decision. However, public safety and health will always remain our priority,” it said.
It also advised members of the public to stay updated on the latest air quality developments, reduce outdoor activities if haze conditions worsen, and take appropriate measures to protect their own health and that of their families. — DayakDaily
