KUCHING, Aug 31: Taska and Tabika are permitted to operate on a case-by-case basis to meet the childcare needs of working parents during the extended school closure.
Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the decision was made in response to requests from parents who have no alternative caregivers for their children while they are at work.
She explained that parents could apply to Taska and Tabika operators to have their children cared for during the school break, which has been extended until Sept 7 due to the haze.
“From the aspect of SOPs, they are clear and the teachers there are trained to care for and ensure the children remain safe.
“We will still allow it if there is a request. Parents can apply to the Taska to care for their children so that they can continue working,” said this during a Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) press conference on the haze situation in Sarawak held here today.
Fatimah said Taska and Tabika were among the safer places for children as they operate under established standard operating procedures and are managed by trained teachers and caregivers.
According to her, the arrangement was intended to address the childcare needs of working parents while ensuring children remained under proper supervision during the extended school break.
She added that the State government would continue to monitor developments closely and take steps to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children. — DayakDaily
