MIRI, March 21: Police will intensify patrols and implement enhanced road safety measures to safeguard properties and residential areas, as well as ensure smooth traffic flow during this Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

Miri Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu emphasised that these efforts are a top priority under ‘Op Lancar’, a special operation focusing on road safety and crime prevention, particularly cases of house break-ins. The operation, which will run from March 29 to April 6, would involve approximately 200 police officers and personnel.

During the operation, patrols are expected to be strengthened along five major routes including Miri-Bintulu road, Bakam road, Permyjaya Bypass, Kuala Baram area, and the Miri-Pujut road.

Officers will also conduct road safety enforcement, issuing summonses to motorists who violate traffic laws.

Alexson shared these details after attending the launch of the Miri Road Safety campaign today.

He also reminded residents to inform the police before leaving their homes and going on their Hari Raya holiday. He noted that while police will be conducting more patrols during this holiday season, residents should take extra precautions such as ensuring their properties are securely locked and avoid leaving valuables in plain sight.

The police further urged the public to take necessary safety measures before embarking on long journeys. This includes; ensuring their vehicle is in good condition, being physically fit to drive long distances, and arranging for an alternate driver if needed.

Motorists are also reminded not to drive under the influence of alcohol or use mobile phones while driving.

“Safety is a shared responsibility. We urge the public to cooperate by following traffic regulations and taking preventive measures to avoid accidents and crimes,” Alexson said.

With Op Lancar in place, authorities hope to ensure a safer and smoother celebration for all during Hari Raya. – DayakDaily
