KUCHING, April 27: The Sarawak government is in negotiations to bring a well-known artiste from the United States (US) to hold an exclusive performance here in October, with the name of the artiste being withheld for now.

According to TVS, this was said by Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who spoke on the positive impact of large-scale concerts on the region’s tourism sector, as it will attract visitors from neighbouring countries like Indonesia and Brunei.

“If there is an event in Kuching which involves artistes or entertainers which those from the neighbouring countries know, we can see an increase in vehicles entering Sarawak via the border.

“For example, during the last countdown event, the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Safety (ICQS) complex in Tebedu experienced congestion for three days.

“This is because they (visitors from Kalimantan) know Hetty Koes Endang will be performing (at the event),” he said to reporters at the ‘Pelangi di Kuching 2025’ concert by Indonesian band Nidji here on Saturday night (April 26).

The concert, he said, also experienced a similar situation in Miri, which saw fans from Brunei flocking to the city to catch the performance.

Meanwhile, Abdul Karim said that three concerts are expected to take place in Miri next month involving Indonesian artistes which are on May 25, in addition to concerts being organised by TVS and Astro on May 17 and 21, respectively.

He expressed confidence that the three concerts will be able to bring in visitors from neighbouring countries. — DayakDaily
