Three arrested, over RM8,000 in syabu seized in separate raids at Kpg Muara Tebas, Timberland Park

KUCHING, April 25: Police have arrested three individuals in two separate raids in Kampung Muara Tebas and Timberland Park, seizing a total of over 86 grammes of syabu worth more than RM8,000.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu stated that the first arrest took place on the night of April 23, when a Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) team from Sarawak police headquarters apprehended a 20-year-old local man by the roadside in Kampung Muara Tebas.

ā€œPolice seized 33.45 grammes of drugs believed to be syabu, with an estimated street value of RM3,300,ā€ he said in a statement yesterday (April 24).

The suspect, who tested negative for drug use and has no prior drug-related record, is being investigated under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. He has been remanded for five days until April 29.

Under Section 39A(2), those convicted face a minimum sentence of five years’ imprisonment and not less than 10 strokes of the cane, or life imprisonment.

In the second case, which occurred in the early hours of April 24, police raided a parking area at Timberland Park and arrested two locals — a 32-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman.

ā€œInvestigations revealed that the male suspect has 10 prior drug-related offences and tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. The female suspect, who also tested positive for the same substances, has 11 prior drug-related records,ā€ Alexson revealed.

Both are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and have been remanded for six days until April 30.

Section 39B carries a mandatory death sentence or life imprisonment, with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane for those not sentenced to death.

Alexson urged members of the public to continue cooperating with the police by reporting drug trafficking and abuse activities in their communities. — DayakDaily
