KUCHING, April 27: Empowering women, investing in youth, and caring for ageing populations are urgent actions that must be taken to create a stronger and more compassionate Asia-Pacific, said Federal Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

In a post on his Facebook page, Nanta, who also serves as Kapit MP, shared his experience addressing fellow parliamentarians during the 15th General Assembly of the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) held in Kuala Lumpur today.

“As Chair of AFPPD Malaysia, I was given the honour to address esteemed parliamentarians from across the Asia-Pacific region on the crucial needs to empower women, invest in our youth, and care for our ageing populations,” he said.

He noted that with the 2023–2025 strategic plan nearing completion, a new Call to Action was important to guide collective efforts, strengthen networking, and promote regional collaboration in implementing the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Programme of Action and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

“These are not just aspirations — they are urgent actions we must take. We must ensure that no one — not women, not youth, not the elderly — is left behind,” he stressed.

Nanta added that by empowering women, nurturing young people, and honouring elders, a future could be built where every individual lives with dignity, opportunity, and fulfilment.

“Every step we take today brings us closer to a more just and inclusive society,” he said. — DayakDaily
