KUCHING, April 27: The Sarawak National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Sarawak demolished a hut used as a drug distribution den near the Sungai Asap Resettlement Scheme in Belaga during a recent major joint operation.
Sarawak AADK assistant director of enforcement and security, Mohamed Izuan Abdul Rahman, said the two-day operation, which also involved the Kapit Division Immigration Department, was conducted last Thursday and Friday (April 24 and 25).
“During the raid on the first day at around 11.30am, two men—believed to be a local and a foreigner—who were acting as caretakers of the drug den, fled upon realising the presence of the enforcement team,” he said in a statement to Bernama today.
He said, based on AADK’s intelligence and investigations, the hut was believed to be a distribution and sales centre for drug addicts around the Sungai Asap area and nearby locations.
The drug den, known locally as ‘Port Bukit’, was reportedly equipped with a cooking stove and built far from populated areas, accessible only through hilly and winding paths.
Mohamed Izuan noted that the presence of cooking facilities indicated the hut was also used as a place to stay overnight, not just for drug transactions.
“Technically, Sungai Asap is a remote area. This proves that drug issues are no longer confined to urban areas—they’ve now spread into rural areas as well.
“Be concerned for your community. Maybe it hasn’t affected our children today, but we never know what could happen tomorrow. Act now to save our future generation from the scourge of drugs,” he said. — DayakDaily
