PKR youth leaders’ ‘unruly’ behaviours raise leadership question

Tan Sri Dr James Masing

KUCHING, Dec 7: The lack of discipline among top PKR youth leaders demonstrated during the Youth Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Malacca yesterday (Dec 6) has raised fundamental question whether they could administer the country.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing said such behaviour caused embarrassment to the country and to the whole world.

“If the PKR leadership cannot even control their own members, can you trust them to administer Malaysia? No. PKR leaders have no discipline, thus their followers became indiscipline. It’s an embarrassment to the whole world,” Masing criticised in a statement today.

The Deputy Chief minister was commenting about the PKR Youth Congress which was interrupted repeatedly after a group of people attempted to smuggle PKR ousted chairman Muhamad Mizan into the event and clashing with those trying to stop them. He was sacked just ahead of the congress and had previously insisted to attend and open the assembly.

It was reported that PKR Youth leaders have blamed each other for the violence that broke out on the street outside the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) where the party was holding its annual congress.

PKR Youth deputy chief Muhammad Hilman Idham blamed congress secretariat director Ahmad Syukri Razab, who is also the party youth wing’s secretary, for what transpired.

“We want the secretariat led by Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK), the PKR Youth’s secretary to bear full responsibility of the actions of their security squad that blocked legitimate delegates and even AMK leadership, from entering the congress hall,” he was quoted saying.

Hilman, who left the afternoon session along with his team aligned to PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, said he will lodge a police report and also file complaints to the party’s secretary as well as the Registrar of Society (RoS) to annul the 2019 PKR Youth Congress.

He also questioned the presence of another group dressed in black that were involved in street fights with his team.

“The PKR Youth leadership is united not to attend this afternoon’s congress as we are concerned about our safety,” he added.

Following yesterday’s violent outbreak, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed the PKR disciplinary board to expel any member involved in disrupting the congress.

Meanwhile, Movement of Chance Sarawak (MoCS) chairman Francis Siah observed that the ruckus in the PKR Congress showed that the party was infested and soiled with ‘samsengs’ (goons) and thus, was bound to attract characters of similar brand.

“Hired goons or not. The fact remains that only a political party with such a culture will attract such shady characters. How come no professional rabble-rousers, if indeed they exist, gate-crashed other political parties such as DAP, Amanah, PBB, SUPP, PRS, PBK or the assemblies of other parties?

“I will not swallow such an excuse and explanation. When your party is infested and soiled with ‘samsengs’, it will attract similar characters,” he concluded.— DayakDaily
