SERIAN, April 26: Haslie Ali, husband of the late navy officer Joanna Felicia Rohna, still manages to smile as he reminisced about the good times they shared together, and also her unique morning wake-up calls.

Describing his late wife as both sweet and tough, the 33-year-old reflects on her talkative, friendly nature that initially drew him to her.

“If she wanted to wake me up, she would yell ‘woi!’, like that,” he recalled the simple word that carried a sweetness and tender affection that has now become a memory of a cherished past.

“Yet, she is still a very sweet person, no less. Even with our disagreements at times, she was always expressive, never one to be silent,” he shared with reporters at his residence in Kampung Engkeroh, Jalan Mongkos near Tebakang today.

Joanna was among 10 navy personnel who lost their lives in a crash involving two helicopters in Lumut, Perak on Tuesday (April 23).

Haslie, a Petty Officer TMK of the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) shared that he met Joanna when she enrolled into the navy in 2016. At the time, he was her senior of three years.

“We were seeing each other while working together at the same base (Lumut) in Perak. After that, we decided to get married.

“Our best memory would be the time we spent to take care of our children in Perak,” he said.

They were blessed with two children namely Allesia Felice Haslie, 4, and one-year-old son Hovannes Haslie.

Haslie also revealed that one week before her passing, Joanna has left a ‘strange’ piece of advice to her husband.

“She was watching a Korean film that depicted a death scene and she jokingly said: ‘If I die, please take care of our two children’,” he recalled.
