PBB looking for ways to include new youth voters

Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi

KUCHING, May 29: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) wants to be more inclusive towards automatically registered voters, says its secretary-general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

According to Nanta, PBB will also amend the party’s constitution in view of Undi18.

“The amendment is more on how to include the youth aged between 18 to 28-years-old,” he told reporters during a press conference after the PBB Supreme Council meeting at PBB headquarters here today.

He added, previously, there is no reason to amend the constitution as those aged 18 were not automatically registered as voters.

“But as soon as the amendment was made in Malaysia law that those aged 18-years-old and above are automatically voters, PBB must also give this group their chance,” he said.

In Dec 1, 2021, Election Commission of Malaysia (EC) secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak announced that the lowering of eligible voter’s age to 18-years-old and automatic voter registration (AVR) will take effect starting Dec 15, 2021.

When asked about the youth registering as PBB members, Nanta said he did not have the latest data on it.

“But there is a significant increase in number of young members joining the party,” he said.

PBB is expected to hold its triennial general meeting (TGM) from June 16 until 19. The four-day conference will take place at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK). — DayakDaily
