KUCHING, Aug 16: Veterans of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) in Katibas have thrown their support behind Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi as a potential candidate for the constituency in the 13th Sarawak state election if the proposed creation of a new seat does not materialise.
In a recent statement, the group pointed to Nanta’s experience as Kapit MP and his familiarity with the area, saying his years representing Kapit had given him a close understanding of communities and issues in the region.
“Kapit and Katibas share close geographical and administrative links, while residents in the area continue to face challenges involving connectivity, accessibility and basic infrastructure.
“Economic opportunities and social facilities are also among the areas requiring attention, particularly for communities spread across a geographically challenging constituency,” they said.
They added Katibas’ diverse communities and cultural traditions should also be taken into account when planning its future, with development extending beyond roads and other physical projects.
They identified education, human capital development, the local economy, social welfare and cultural preservation as key areas for Katibas’ long-term development.
“Nanta’s background in government would also give him the experience needed to raise issues affecting Katibas at the State and Federal levels,” they explained.
With the proposed new constituency still a factor in determining the eventual electoral arrangements, the PBB veterans said they would support Nanta being considered for N62 Katibas if the seat remains in its current form.
“Nanta’s experience, knowledge of the area and ability to connect local aspirations with the wider development agenda could provide Katibas with renewed impetus for development,” they said.
The group said Katibas needed a representative who could understand the area’s existing challenges while pushing for greater development opportunities for its communities. — DayakDaily
