SARATOK, Aug 27: The RM102 million Saratok Riverfront project is set to become a new landmark for the area upon completion, with construction to be undertaken under the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA).
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said the project, the largest to be implemented under BDDA funding, is now in the final stages of preparation before being put out to tender.
He said an assessment of the project’s overall cost is scheduled for Sept 2, after which the tender process will proceed.
“The Saratok Riverfront project has been approved, and the overall project cost assessment will be carried out on September 2. It will then proceed to the tender process.
“This is the largest project under BDDA and, upon completion, it will become a new landmark for the local community,” he said as reported by TVS.
Mohamad was speaking at a ceremony to hand over Section 18 land titles under the Sarawak Land Code to residents of the traditional villages of Kampung Triso Darat, Betong, and the Krian area today.
He said the project would also feature a 530-metre extension of the riverfront towards Sungai Melango, following approval to utilise part of a parcel of federal government land.
The extension, he added, would provide a new recreational space for the local community while enhancing the area’s development potential.
Meanwhile, the Saratok District Council (MDS) has begun engaging with local traders who will be affected by the riverfront project.
Mohamad said the affected traders would be temporarily relocated to an area next to the Public Library during the construction period, which is expected to last three months.
He also expressed his appreciation to the Land and Survey Department (JTS) and Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh for their continued commitment to assisting residents in the Kalaka and Krian areas. — DayakDaily
