KUCHING, Aug 18: It is official—Parti Sedar Rakyat (Sedar) has changed its name to Parti Wawasan Rakyat (Wawasan) following approval by the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

In a statement, Wawasan president Affendi Jeman said the party received an official notification from the ROS dated Aug 11 on Monday (Aug 17) which approved the name change application.

“This approval marks an important milestone in the party’s journey and opens a new chapter for the organisation to move forward with a clearer identity, renewed spirit, and stronger vision in representing the aspirations of the people.

“The party wishes to express its highest appreciation and gratitude to the ROS for its consideration, due process, and approval of the application. We respect the role of ROS as the registering authority in ensuring that governance, order and the legal framework governing political organisations in the country are maintained,” he said.

More than a name change, he said that Wawasan represents the need to look towards the future of the country and its people with foresight, maturity, and courage.

“Politics should not be focused solely on elections and the struggle for power, but must be based on vision, policies, unity, stability and the well-being of the people,” he said.

He added that the party wants to build a more constructive political culture with politics that unites, offers solutions, and places the interests of the people above the interests of groups or individuals.

At the same time, he also emphasised that the new branding does not erase Sedar’s history and experience, which instead will serve as the foundation for Wawasan.

“Our immediate priority is to strengthen the party’s organisational structure, expand our grassroots network, enhance our policy framework and introduce a comprehensive Political and Development Wawasan that genuinely responds to the aspirations and needs of the people,” he said. — DayakDaily
