KUCHING, May 28: Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has expressed his intention to gradually give space to younger leaders in the future, while affirming that his commitment to politics and continued service to the people of Kapit will remain unchanged.
Nanta, who is also Works Minister, said that although he may eventually step back from parliamentary duties, he will continue to remain active in politics and serve the constituency he represents.
“I also expressed my intention to make room for younger leaders in the future. Even though one day I may step down as a Member of Parliament, I will remain active in politics and continue to serve the people and the Kapit constituency,” he said in a social media posting today.
He made the remarks during the Hari Raya Qurban 2026 celebration at Masjid Nurul Islam, Kampung Gelam in Song, where he joined local residents and invited guests in the festive gathering. Also present was his political secretary Datuk Alvin Runggah Jimbun, who accompanied him throughout the programme.
During the event, Nanta also officiated the symbolic presentation of sacrificial meat to Muslim residents in the Song district in conjunction with Aidiladha, describing the occasion as a reflection of unity, cooperation and care among the community.
“Celebrations like this not only carry great meaning for Muslims, but also reflect the values of togetherness, gotong-royong and compassion within society,” he said.
He stressed that Sarawak’s strength lies in its unity and harmony among different races and religions, noting that the State is often recognised as an example of mutual respect and cooperation.
“This spirit must continue to be preserved for our shared well-being,” he reminded.
On development matters, Nanta stressed that Sarawak’s progress must continue to be strengthened under the leadership of the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who continues to emphasise a comprehensive development agenda for the people.
“Allocations obtained by the Sarawak Government will continue to be channelled back to the people, including communities in Song and Kapit,” he said.
At the federal level, he noted the importance of bipartisan cooperation in advancing the national development agenda, adding that the federal government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has allocated RM2.1 billion for development in the Kapit parliamentary constituency.
“Rural development in Song and Kapit will continue to be driven through State agencies such as the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA), with emphasis on addressing grassroots needs and improving livelihoods rather than infrastructure alone,” he said.
Nanta also invited the public to attend the upcoming Sarawakku Sayang programme in Kapit on June 26, encouraging strong community participation to enliven the event.
He expressed appreciation to the organisers, mosque committee, volunteers and villagers for their efforts in making the celebration a success.
Concluding his message, he extended Aidiladha greetings to all Muslims, hoping the spirit of sacrifice, unity and cooperation would continue to strengthen communities across Song, Kapit and Sarawak. — DayakDaily
