KUCHING, Sept 6: Kapit’s agro-food sector has strong potential to be further strengthened, particularly through adopting modern technology, increasing productivity, boosting youth participation, and creating more entrepreneurial opportunities for rural communities.
In a Facebook post, Kapit MP and Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said agencies such as the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA) are also preparing plans to develop the agricultural sector and increase income sources for residents in Kapit.
He said this following a dinner with the delegation from N62 Katibas, led by assemblyman Lidam Assan, and the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Bukit Goram Branch.
Nanta also said he was pleased to see the enthusiasm among participants from Kapit, who will visit the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026 to explore opportunities in the agriculture and agro-food sectors that could help improve the socioeconomic well-being of rural communities.
“The visit serves as an important platform to gain first-hand insight into the latest developments in the agro-food, agriculture, livestock, fisheries, as well as agricultural technology and innovation sectors, which are developing rapidly.
“Hopefully, the visit to MAHA 2026 will open up more opportunities for new ideas, networks and prospects to be brought back and translated into tangible benefits for the people of Kapit,” he said. — DayakDaily
