KUCHING, April 26: The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has prolonged the Condition Movement Control Order (CMCO) in Sarawak to May 17 after extending it to May 10 recently.

SDMC, in a statement today, said the extension period will come into effect from April 27, 12.01am until May 17, 11.59pm.

After accessing the Covid-19 positive cases in Sarawak, SDMC emphasised that they have decided to prolong the CMCO in Sarawak.

The Committee has also approved stricter standard operating procedures (SOPs) from Kuching, Miri, Sibu, Betong, Bintulu, Sarikei and Kapit Divisional Disaster Management Committees (DDMCs) in efforts to stem the surge in Covid-19 cases and clusters.

On April 24, SDMC had announced that CMCO in Sarawak will be extended from April 27 to May 10 following a risk assessment on the rising number of Covid-19 cases throughout the State.

Meanwhile, Kuching, Miri, Sibu, Bintulu, Sarikei, and Kapit are currently categorised as Covid-19 red zones while Betong is categorised as an orange zone with a cumulative total of 31 cases reported in the past 14 days.

Kuching reported a total of 1,113 cases in the past 14 days while Miri and Sibu reported 543 and 1,335 cases respectively over the same period.

Bintulu reported 1,583 cases in the past two weeks while Sarikei and Kapit reported 165 cases and 465 cases respectively over the same period. — DayakDaily
