KUCHING, Sept 13: If the Federal Constitution is amended to increase parliamentary seats for Sabah and Sarawak, the Election Commission of Malaysia (EC) will review electoral constituency boundaries in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak

In a statement, EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said this followed remarks by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the proposed amendment to the Federal Constitution to increase the number of parliamentary seats for Sabah and Sarawak.

“The proposed increase in parliamentary seats will also take into account the electoral constituencies in Peninsular Malaysia, based on the principle that the representation ratio for Sabah and Sarawak will also be increased from its current position.

“In the context of the delineation of electoral constituencies across the three study units, the EC will conduct a review of the delineation of the electoral constituencies, subject to amendments to the Federal Constitution,” he said.

He added that more clarification will be provided once there is an official decision and developments that enable the matter to be made known to the public. — DayakDaily
