MIRI, Sept 13: Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg has pledged that the Sarawak government will fully fund the education of Euodia, the daughter of nurse Debra Moset who died in the Long Lellang helicopter crash, until she achieves her dream of becoming a medical doctor.
The pledge comes after Euodia posted a viral video on TikTok, expressing her grief and sharing her mother’s ultimate wish for her to pursue medicine. The emotional clip touched the hearts of thousands online, detailing her firm vow to study hard and carry on her mother’s legacy of service.
Abang Johari shared that he was deeply moved after coming across Euodia’s story on social media.
Speaking at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Northern Sarawak special convention in Miri today, he pledged that the State government would bear the full educational cost for her and the other victims’ children.
“I read today about a child who lost her mother. Her mother was a nurse who died. Her daughter said she would study hard to become a doctor and continue her mother’s sacrifice.
“To Euodia, the Sarawak government will bear the cost of her education until she becomes a doctor. The same goes for the other children of the victims,” he said.
The late Debra was among the healthcare workers killed in the tragic helicopter crash at Long Lellang, Ulu Baram, while serving remote communities in the interior.
Acknowledging that no monetary amount can replace a parent, the Premier said Euodia’s resolve has strengthened his determination to improve essential services for rural communities.
“For us in the Sarawak government, the loss of a father or mother cannot be measured in money.
“This gives me the motivation to find alternative ways for us to provide services to the people in rural areas, especially in the interior,” he said. — DayakDaily
