27yo woman in Sibu becomes Sarawak’s youngest Covid-19 fatality

KUCHING, June 1: A 27-year-old woman in Sibu has become the youngest victim who passed away due to Covid-19 in Sarawak.

She was among six new Covid-19 fatalities reported in Sarawak today.


On May 16, a 29-year-old woman in Bintulu was then the youngest novel coronavirus casualty in the State.

According to reports from Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, the 27-year-old woman initially sought medical treatment at a private hospital due to coughing and shortness of breath.

She tested positive for Covid-19 on May 29 and was referred to Sibu Hospital for treatment.

Subsequently, the woman who had asthma saw her health deteriorate over time and she passed away on May 31.

Apart from that, there was also a brought-in-dead (BID) case involving a 77-year-old man who was sent to Mukah Hospital.

The man who had fever, coughing and shortness of breath for a number of days was found unconscious by family members and and rushed to Mukah Hospital. He was pronounced dead on May 30 after not showing any signs of life.

A Covid-19 swab test was conducted and his results returned positive for Covid-19.

The other four Covid-19 fatalities reported today comprised four men, with two aged 72 and the others aged 65 and 66 respectively.

All the fatalities had hypertension and were admitted to Sibu Hospital, Bintulu Hospital, Serian Hospital and Sarawak General Hospital respectively after experiencing symptoms of Covid-19, before their health conditions worsened and they passed away. — DayakDaily
