KUCHING, Aug 27: Tourism Minister Dato Seri Tiong King Sing has urged Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) agents to strictly comply with all regulatory requirements when handling applications in the Korean market, amid concerns over confusion surrounding the programme’s agent system.
The issue was raised during his meeting with the Malaysia Immigration Association in Korea, whose representatives highlighted the possibility that some Malaysian agents may have an incomplete understanding of the regulations and are dealing directly with prospective applicants.
“In the discussion regarding MM2H, the association representatives informed me that there is a possibility that some MM2H agents in Malaysia do not fully understand the regulatory system and are thus dealing directly with local individuals.
“This situation has caused confusion among many individuals who claim they can handle MM2H applications. I took note of this matter and explained that this is why we always emphasise that MM2H agents in Malaysia must operate within the legal framework,” he said in a post shared on his social media today.
Tiong stressed that agents must understand and comply with Malaysian laws and regulations when carrying out their activities.
He said he would remind all MM2H agents to comply with the relevant regulations and decisions upon his return to Malaysia.
Tiong said the meeting was important despite focusing largely on the agent system, as overseas industry players are at the forefront of promoting MM2H and have a better understanding of issues that emerge following the implementation of policies.
“Only by establishing a clearer cooperation mechanism can we reduce confusion, avoid fraud and misunderstandings, and provide greater confidence to foreign individuals interested in choosing MM2H,” he said.
He said the credibility of the MM2H programme must be upheld to ensure its sustainable growth while safeguarding Malaysia’s image and the interests of applicants.
Tiong also encouraged Malaysian MM2H agents to strengthen cooperation with Korean industry partners and continue promoting the programme, given the market’s strong potential among retirees seeking to make Malaysia their home during the winter months.
He welcomed the association’s feedback on areas that could be improved, saying stronger ties between Malaysian MM2H agents and Korean industry partners would help promote the programme more effectively. — DayakDaily
