KUCHING, July 31: The proposed Kuching-Guro Business Council will serve as a new platform to connect businesses, promote trade and investment, and create new opportunities between Sarawak and South Korea.
Sarawak’s Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian backed the initiative, saying the council would formalise engagement between the business communities of Kuching South and South Korea’s Guro District.
“I strongly support Mayor Wee (Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng) talking about Kuching-Guro Business Council, and I think this will formalise to bring the business community to come together,” he said during the launch of Guro Street in Kuching South today.
He said the council could help connect businesses from both sides and explore opportunities in areas where Sarawak and South Korea share common interests, including green energy, hydrogen development and carbon capture and storage.
Meanwhile, Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the proposed council would add a new dimension to the long-standing relationship between both cities by bringing together local governments, business communities, young entrepreneurs and industries.
“Together, we are exploring the establishment of the Kuching-Guro Business Council, which will serve as a new platform to connect entrepreneurs, promote trade and investment, encourage innovation and create more business opportunities for both cities,” he said.
Wee said future cooperation could also expand into education, technology, tourism, the creative economy, smart city initiatives and sustainable urban development.
He said the relationship between Kuching South and Guro District, which began in 2013, has continued to grow through trust, commitment and a shared willingness to work together.
Also present at the launch were Guro District Mayor Jang Inhong, Guro District Council Chairman Kim Chulsoo, Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Abang Ismawi Abang Ali, and Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Deputy Mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili. — DayakDaily
