MIRI, July 4: Today’s tourists are no longer simply looking for attractive destinations, but are seeking authentic experiences that combine food, culture, and local heritage in a single visit.
According to Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, this is what the Taste of Borneo Carnival (TOBC) brings by gathering a wide variety of traditional delicacies and cultural performances from the State’s diverse ethnic communities, particularly in Miri.
“Today, tourists are looking for authentic experiences. When we offer a wide variety of food while at the same time showcasing dances and cultures from different ethnic groups, it provides visitors—whether from neighbouring countries or around the world—with a truly authentic experience,” he said at the Borneo Cultural Dance Arts programme held in conjunction with TOBC 4.0 here on Friday (July 4), as reported by TVS.
He said festivals such as TOBC allow visitors to enjoy a variety of traditional dishes while watching cultural performances by different ethnic communities, making their visit even more meaningful.
“Visitors not only get to savour local food, but also experience firsthand the diversity of cultures and ethnic dances that form Sarawak’s identity,” he added.
Abdul Karim added that Miri is one of the State’s most unique divisions as it is home to all 34 ethnic groups found in Sarawak, making it the ideal location to showcase the State’s rich cultural diversity to tourists.
“In Miri, we can see almost all of Sarawak’s ethnic communities living together in harmony. This is the strength that makes the city so special and an ideal venue for festivals such as the Taste of Borneo,” he said. — DayakDaily
