SIBU, Sept 3: Police have arrested a 21-year-old local man and woman and seized 8,400 pills suspected to be Erimin 5 and nearly 2.9kg of ketamine in a raid on a house in Jalan Gambir here.
In a statement yesterday, Sibu district police said the two suspects were arrested at about 5pm on Sept 1 by personnel from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD Sibu).
A search of the premises led to the seizure of 840 red and silver blister strips, each containing 10 pills suspected to be Erimin 5. The pills had a gross estimated weight of 2,677.46 grammes.
Police also seized six black paper packets containing blue paper packets, each containing crystal-like substances suspected to be ketamine, with a gross estimated weight of 2,891.81 grammes.
The total value of the seized drugs was estimated at RM412,351.
Both suspects, who have no previous criminal records, have been remanded for five days to assist in investigations.
Police said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty by hanging or life imprisonment upon conviction.
The suspects are also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both, as well as two years of supervision under Section 38B.
Sibu police said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), particularly the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN), would continue to intensify enforcement efforts against drug trafficking and abuse.
