BAU, July 4: A bullying incident has been reported at a school in Bau involving a Form Two female student who was allegedly pushed from behind by a classmate, causing her to fall and strike a metal structure attached to a whiteboard.

The Bau District Police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman confirmed that police has received a report involving the bullying incident yesterday (July 3).

The incident is believed to have occurred at about 10am inside a classroom. The victim sustained minor injuries, including cuts and abrasions on her left arm, and was treated at the Singai Health Clinic. She was reported to be in stable condition.

“Preliminary investigations found that the suspect is believed to have repeatedly harassed the victim prior to the incident, including pulling her hair and pushing her. The victim also alleged that the suspect had been bullying other students in the classroom.

“An initial complaint regarding the harassment had been made to the school approximately two weeks earlier. However, the victim did not proceed with a formal police report at the time due to fear of retaliation,” Mohd Haide said in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under Section 507B of the Penal Code.

Mohd Haide added that the suspect has been identified, and further investigations are ongoing, including recording statements from witnesses and school authorities, as well as obtaining medical reports to complete the investigation paper.

He reminded students not to engage in any form of bullying, whether physical, verbal or emotional, as such actions may lead to serious consequences and legal action.

‘If convicted, the offender may face imprisonment of up to three years, a fine, or both, depending on the outcome of the court proceedings,” he said.

Parents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any signs of bullying to the authorities or schools immediately, while schools are advised to strengthen monitoring and take firm disciplinary action to ensure a safe learning environment.

“Bullying cases are taken seriously and such behaviour will not be compromised. The public is also advised against making any speculation that could disrupt ongoing investigations,” he cautioned. — DayakDaily
