TAIPEI, Sept 1: Business networking seminars held in Taipei and Kinmen from Aug 25 to 26 are part of ongoing efforts by the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) and Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA) to deepen industry ties and identify new tourism opportunities spanning Sarawak, Brunei and the wider Borneo region.
According to a media release, the sessions brought together tourism stakeholders to strengthen industry connections and explore new opportunities tied to Sarawak, Brunei, and the wider Borneo proposition.
STB said that the collaboration builds on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by STB and RBA in May 2026, which established a framework for closer cooperation in destination promotion, product development and regional connectivity.
It said that as the world’s third-largest island, Borneo holds strong potential as a more connected and compelling regional destination.
Through this collaboration, Sarawak and Brunei are being positioned as complementary experiences within a wider Borneo journey, offering travellers more opportunities to explore the island’s richness and diversity.
It added that Sarawak offers a distinctive mix of culture, adventure, nature, food and festivals, while Brunei Darussalam brings a different dimension through its Islamic heritage, royal traditions, and serene destination character—offering travellers contrasting yet complementary ways to experience Borneo’s diversity within a single journey.
“At the heart of this collaboration is a shared ambition to strengthen Borneo’s appeal as a destination in its own right,” said Dr Sharzede Datu Salleh Askor, chief executive officer (CEO) of STB.
“By bringing together the distinct strengths of Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam, we can offer travellers a richer perspective of Borneo, where each destination retains its own identity while contributing to a more connected regional journey.”
Through continued collaboration, STB and RBA aim to strengthen regional connectivity, encourage multi-destination travel, and build long-term tourism value across Borneo. — DayakDaily
